Since 2012, Audit Analytics has examined the market share of Transfer Agents appointed by active SEC registrants, looking at the absolute number of clients.
In the big picture, not much has changed since last year. The top five in market share are the same, and for the most part, individual market shares have remained steady.
Computershare/BNY Mellon (“Computershare”) and American Stock Transfer & Trust (“AST”) continue to be the top two industry leaders in terms of total SEC registrants. As of this most recent analysis, Computershare and AST now have a combined market share of over 65%, up from last year’s 63%.
Turning to look at the Transfer Agent market share among new IPO companies, we again see a lot of the same transfer agents. AST, Computershare, and Continental Stock Transfer & Trust, although showing a slight decrease in IPO market share compared to last year, still remain on top. Broadridge and Wells Fargo, who tied for fifth this time around, have just about maintained their market share since last year. Vstock, which last appeared in the top five for IPO market share in 2014, earned fourth place this year with 3.85% IPO market share, up from last year’s 1.79%.
