Computershare, industry leader among transfer agents, dominates the market in more ways than one. Not only is Computershare the leader in market share, but also in number of shareholders managed.
A combined 47,068,335 shareholders have been reported by over 10,500 active SEC registrants. Computershare/BNY Mellon is the transfer agent for 58.3% of them — over 27 million shareholders. Even without accounting for the number of shareholders managed by BNY Mellon, which was acquired by Computershare in 2011, Computershare would still lead the industry, handling approximately 44% of the shareholders reported.
